The ABC Music Project promotes the ABC music notation format, which notates music using plain text, and hosts ABC-related software. It maintains the ABC standard and provides resources for developers, including abcMIDI for MIDI output and transposing, the iabc editor, and the jcabc2ps PostScript converter. It also hosts the Nottingham Music Database.

Toadflax is a graphical tool for displaying and editing tunes in abc notation. It lets users load abc music notation files and work on each independently, with music shown on-screen without a PostScript interpreter. It provides transposition, and it exists in forms built with GTK and tkinter.
MC Musiceditor is free, open source (GPLv2 or above) music notation software made for Windows XP and above, developed by Reinier Maliepaard. It uses a modification of the ABC language, supports note and chord entry, score preview and MIDI playback, and exports to MIDI and PDF. The software is donateware and still maintained.
