Meshtastic is an open source, community-driven project that uses LoRa radios as an off-grid communication platform in areas without reliable communications infrastructure. Devices rebroadcast messages to form a mesh network without cell towers, WiFi or internet, and can be paired with a phone or computer via Bluetooth, WiFi or USB. Clients include Apple and Android apps, a web client and a Python CLI/SDK.
Port Checker is a free online tool for checking open ports on a computer or device and verifying port forwarding setup on a router. It can help diagnose connection errors and problems with firewall setup, and supports entering a custom target IP address.
Globalping is a platform for running network commands such as ping, traceroute and DNS resolve on probes distributed worldwide. It is used to monitor, debug and benchmark internet infrastructure. It offers a REST API, CLI and integrations.
NetBalancer is a Windows application for local network traffic control and monitoring. It allows setting download and upload priorities or limits for any process, and defining traffic rules based on time of day, protocol or application type. Deep packet inspection can monitor and limit unwanted traffic.
Wireshark is a free and open-source network protocol analyzer that lets users capture and interactively browse the traffic running on a computer network, providing deep inspection of hundreds of protocols. It runs on most computing platforms including Windows, macOS, Linux, and UNIX, and can also be built from source on other platforms.
OpenSpeedTest is a browser-based HTML5 internet speed test that measures download, upload, ping, and jitter without Flash or Java. It works on phones, TVs, consoles, and computers. A free and open-source self-hosted server can be deployed, and a speed test widget can be embedded on websites or apps.
Fast.com is a simple internet speed testing tool. It estimates a user's download speed in seconds, with support for dozens of languages. The tool also offers optional metrics including upload speed, loaded and unloaded latency, and configurable parallel connection and test duration settings for more detailed network performance checks.
